Our Story

In 1992, Robert Berman created the Original Tam Dreadlocks Hat and sold it off his head for 20 dollars and a beer. Inspired by this success, Robert developed new styles of novelty hats, expanding Rasta Imposta to include original costumes and accessories. With 30 years in business and thousands of hats and costumes sold, Rasta Imposta’s mission remains to create funny, easy-to-wear hats and costumes that make people laugh.

How Did We Get Our Start?

Rasta Imposta began in 1992 when aspiring playwright Robert Berman, with an entrepreneurial spirit, moved to the Jersey Shore for the summer. He made wool dreadlocks, glued them into a baseball cap, and wore it out to a bar on Long Beach Island, NJ. He sold it for 20 dollars and a beer, and thus, Rasta Imposta was born!
